Job Description Job Description Maintenance Technician The
Chrysler Museum of Art, located at 1 Memorial Place in Norfolk, VA,

Non-Exempt Supervisor duties: No Position Type: Full-Time Reports
to: Director of Curatorial Affairs Benefits Eligibility: Yes,
Medical, Dental, Vision, 403 B, STD/LTD, PTO, etc. Revision Date:
November 2025 Primary Purpose: Under general supervision, executes
a museum-wide maintenance, repair and minor construction program
for facility equipment and components, to include but not limited
to: HVAC equipment, plumbing, electrical, structural, and other
equipment/components associated with the environmental systems and
physical plant of the Museum’s facilities Key Performance
Indicators (KPI): Job Knowledge, Openness, Growth, Respect and
Dynamism Essential Functions: Job Knowledge Performs exterior
grounds maintenance, including litter pickup and trash removal.
Prepares surfaces for painting; primes and finishes walls, doors,
and trim. Completes general maintenance tasks such as replacing
light bulbs, repairing plumbing fixtures, clearing drains,
repairing mechanical/electrical devices, and wall repair. Conducts
preventative maintenance on building systems and supports special
projects as assigned. Maintains accurate records of labor,
materials, and work orders. Ensures compliance with safety,
environmental procedures, and applicable codes/regulations.
Openness Responds promptly to work orders and service requests,
addressing recurring problems effectively. Inputs updates into the
web-based work order system to close out projects. Reports unsafe
conditions (e.g., trip hazards, gas leaks) to supervisors.
Coordinates maintenance efforts with outside contractors and
technicians as directed. Growth Orders parts and supplies as
needed, maintaining inventory control. Assists with the movement of
furniture, materials, and equipment when required. Participates in
the Facilities on-call rotation to expand skills and
responsibilities. Performs other duties as assigned, demonstrating
flexibility and willingness to learn. Respect Maintains the
cleanliness and professional appearance of all work areas. Upholds
safety standards and respects environmental procedures.
Demonstrates accountability by reporting hazards and following
established policies. Dynamism Responds quickly and effectively to
emergency situations. Adapts to changing priorities and special
projects as directed by supervisors. Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: High school diploma or
equivalent is required, must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years’
experience in maintenance and/or construction. Specific
training/experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, etc.
preferred. Must be able to follow written and oral directions, and
to understand written and verbal instructions. Working Conditions:
Frequent work outside and in inclement weather conditions is
required, including heat, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to
fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. Must be willing and
able to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by
established Safety standards. Physical Requirements: Must be able
to lift and carry file boxes and other awkward items weighing up to
25 lbs., including up and downstairs. Requires intermittent
standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending
throughout the workday. Must be able to see and hear or use
prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to
ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
