Description of Work

Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice, Section of
Prisons Administration. The Department of Public Safety is the

responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property
of its citizens through prevention, protection, and
preparation.

Licensed Practical Nurse opportunity with the North Carolina
Department of Public Safety. This is a full-time position (40 hours
per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, paid

This position is located at Pasquotank Correctional Institution, a
male close/medium custody facility in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank
County, NC.Position works under the supervision of a Registered
Nurse. The LPN provides routine practical nursing work in the
treatment and care of patients. Positions at this level assist the
RN in conducting sick call clinics by participating in the nursing
assessment, in accordance with their scope of practice and by
utilizing written protocols. Positions at this level screen
patients and obtain pertinent medical data, collect vital signs and
specimens, administer/interpret TB skin tests, assist the RN and
Physician as needed, administer medications, observe patients for
reactions, and record pertinent information. They also assist
subordinate employees in providing general patient care and
reinforcing the plan of care as outlined by the RN. Position may be
required to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays with limited
supervision.
Note to Current State Employees: The Salary Grade for this position
is GN08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of

will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of
relevant education and experience, funding availability, and
internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase/decrease
MAY result.
