Job Description:
Summary
The ambulatory pharmacy buyer performs all aspects of procurement
and delivery for the outpatient hospital clinics and is accountable
for the regulatory requirements in the ambulatory medication
storage areas. This is inclusive of administrative duties related
to the purchasing function. This position is also cross trained to
provide support to the inpatient pharmacy buyer and the 340B
team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the
general tasks performed daily. May assign other duties as needed to
drive to the vision fulfill the mission and abide by the values of
the organization.
+ Manages the inventory of medications and associated supplies,
including setting and maintaining periodic automatic replenishment
(PAR) levels for the off-site clinics
+ Reviews clinic orders, ensures formulary compliance, and places
orders with the wholesaler on the appropriate account
+ Receives the clinic orders, re-packages as necessary, and
delivers to off-site locations
+ Reconciles cost/quantity differences and processes invoices for
payment
+ Performs routine inspection and review of the off-site medication
areas, including rotation of stock and identification and removal
of expired drugs
+ Performs routine monitoring and auditing of medication storage
areas, including the refrigerators and freezers
+ Completes unit inspections in a timely manner each month for the
clinic areas
+ Stays current with the medication management standards for
accrediting bodies, including HFAP and the board of pharmacy
+ Stays current with 340B requirements
+ Assists the 340B program analyst with ambulatory audits, and back
fills the 340B analyst as needed
+ Backfills the inpatient pharmacy buyer as needed to ensure order
is split appropriately
+ Tracks purchases and provides the information to finance
monthly
+ Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and
in-services
+ Demonstrates a commitment to flexible work scheduling when
necessary to ensure patient care
Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: High School or GED Equivalent
Preferred Education: Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician
Training program
Experience: Two or more years' experience as a pharmacy technician.
Inpatient experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Applicant must be registered with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy as
a Pharmacy Technician.
Must be CPhT Nationally Certified.
**Driver's license required as this individual will be expected to
be delivering to offsite locations
