City/StateNorfolk, VAOverviewWork ShiftRotating (United States of America)Sentara Heart Hospital located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is hiring a CNS to support the Cardiac Surgical ICU!This position is full-time.Relocation Assistance available for Qualified Candidates!Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is one of just five Level1 trauma centers in Virginia, home to the Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance and the region's first Magnet hospital and nationally ranked heart program at the Sentara Heart Hospital. The hospital sits on the Eastern Virginia Medical Campus which serves as the primary teaching institution. Sentara Norfolk General and the Heart Hospital offers Transplant Services: Heart, Kidney, and Pancreas. We are a Certified Stroke Center and the only Level 3 Epilepsy Center in the area.Sentara Norfolk General Hospital was in Virginia by Healthgrades.The Sentara Heart Hospital,a 112-bed care facility, is #2 for Cardiology services and Heart Surgery in the State of Virginia and ranks #24 in the nation for best heart programs.The Clinical Nurse Specialist demonstrates advanced and specialized clinical knowledge and to facilitate the provision of patient/family-focused care to promote health and/or well-being improve quality of life; drive practice changes throughout the organization and ensure use of evidence-based care to improve patient outcomes. This individual provides expertise and support either directly or indirectly by influencing patients/families, nurses/nursing practice, and organization/systems through direct care, leadership, coaching, research, ethical decision making, collaboration, and consultation.Experience/Education:

  • Master's degree required.
  • 2 years + of Nursing experience, Experience with Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and Mechanical Circulatory Support (Impella/ECMO/LVAD) required.
  • Experience with transplant preferred.
  • RN license VA or compact/multi state eligible.
    • Must be certified in specialty area deemed eligible for CNS as recognized by State Boards of Nursing.
    • CNS registration with Virginia or North Carolina Board of Nursing required.
    • BLS Required.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for Intermediate Care and Critical Care.Cardiac Surgical ICU Description:
      • 20 Bed cardiac surgical ICU
      • Nurses handle 1-2 patients on this unit based on acuity level.
      • Nurses provide service to any patients that have undergone open heart surgeries such as CABG, Valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, TAVR, ablations, Heart Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support devices including the Total Artificial Heart and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and various lung surgeries.
        • Nurses manage critically ill patients that require intensive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, multiple drug infusions, IABP therapy and CRRT.Benefits: Sentara offers an attractive array of full-time benefits to include:
