Job Description Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION Revised: January 20, 2026 POSITION TITLE: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)/Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) FLSA STATUS: Full-time/Non-exempt DEPARTMENT: Aylett Family Wellness SALARY: Based on experience ($22-$29 hourly) LOCATION: Aylett, VA EDUCATION: Medical Assistant Certificate, Graduated from Accredited LPN Program SUPERVISOR: Health Center Manager WORK EXPERIENCE: 5 years’ Experience in Medical Setting EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT CODE: E-1 /Essential Onsite EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DESCRIPTION: Required to be physically onsite to maintain critical operations. Must make every effort to report onsite during closures or delays unless released by leadership. May be required to work modified or extended shifts. JOB SUMMARY: The CMA/LPN provides outstanding patient care and physical support for patients daily. The CMA/LPN will need to have a basic understanding of patient care and medical terminology. This position is responsible for obtaining patient records and test results, coordinating daily administrative tasks, preparing treatment rooms for examinations, and assisting our practitioners during medical procedures. In addition to assisting medical staff, the CMA/LPN responsibilities include scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling appointments, checking patients in, and verifying patient’s demographic information. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide exceptional patient care. Schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments as required. Answer patients’ questions regarding basic medical tests and procedures. Provide instructions to patients to ensure they are prepared for examinations and procedures. Confirm patient appointments. Courteously receive incoming telephone calls and take messages as needed. Explain financial requirements and obligations to patients and enter payments into the practice management system. Schedule referral appointments and follow-ups. Verify insurance details and inform patients of un-covered fees. Obtain and record patient medical history, test results and other relevant information for medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality. Obtain a wide range of information from physicians about patient condition and treatment plans. Record vital signs such as pulse, temperature, blood pressure, respiration, height, and weight, while ensuring information on charts and documents are accurate. Incorporate theoretical knowledge and technical skills to give assistance to physicians for diagnosis, examinations, and treatments. Prepare treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assist practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care that is requested. Note observations of patient behavior, including complaints, or physical symptoms. Safely provide prescribed injections and medications and monitor patients for reactions during and after treatment. Deliver compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families. Assist Medical Assistants with difficult assignments. Stay up to date on training and facility policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA. Perform all other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS: Ability to think and work independently and with direction. Ability to communicate with staff members in a fast-paced and stressful environment. Maintain a basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, reference tools, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant practice scope. Strong computer and documentation skills. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School graduate or equivalent. Graduation from an Accredited LPN Program. Valid Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse (required). Certification from a medical assistant program (required). Five years of experience in a medical setting (preferred). Experience working with pediatric patients (preferred). OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Applicants are required to authorize a background check and submit to drug testing. Failure to do so will disqualify applicants from consideration for the position. Documentation of vaccinations and/or titers for Hepatitis B, and MMR. Documentation of Tuberculosis skin testing and/or TB lab screening results.
