Web Communications Specialist (0063A)
The Web Communications Specialist is responsible for creating,
acquiring, maintaining, and providing oversight for content for the
Old Dominion University website. This includes the University
homepage, top-level pages, and administrative pages. The WCS serves
as a web communications liaison with administrative and academic
units and the Web Support Partners (WSP) and assists with overall
website monitoring, maintenance, and support for the University.
This position also disseminates the University's digital
newsletter, -InsideODU- and assists with -Monarch Mailer- and
oversees the analytical data for the University's web presence and
these publications. This position may also assist with University
social media platforms and initiatives, including assisting the
social media manager with social listening and monitoring.
Required Qualifications: Considerable experience using web content
management systems (such as Adobe AEM and WordPress) for authoring
and editing Web content; Working knowledge of Internet programing
language including but not limited to HTML, CSS, and PHP.
Considerable knowledge of Web standards and Web accessibility
standards. Considerable experience developing and designing Web
content focusing on user interface/experience design. Considerable
knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically, Photoshop.
Considerable knowledge of communications, marketing, and branding
principles. Considerable knowledge of analytical tools and
dashboards such as Google Analytics. Excellent collaboration
skills. Excellent customer service skills including the ability to
understand customer needs and effectively communicate options for
problem solving. Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Strong proofreading skills. Demonstrated ability to solicit and
utilize materials and feedback from multiple constituents.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and
execute tasks in a deadline-driven environment. Strong time
management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to set
and communicate deadlines to team and campus partners. Demonstrated
ability to interpret and apply guidelines and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership to team
members. Considerable experience writing, managing, editing and/or
providing oversight for website content. Considerable experience in
communications and marketing. Considerable experience working with
a variety of insight/analytic tools, dashboards, and monitoring
tools. Comfortable providing website oversight and maintenance.
Comfortable using and applying analytical skills to generate
insights to get results. Some experience developing and
disseminating e-newsletters. Some experience with planning,
developing, and implementing interactive Web sites. Some experience
in professional writing or creating original content for the Web.
Some experience working with diverse internal and external
Preferred Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Communications,
Marketing or related field, certifications in website design and/or
maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training,
and experience. Prior experience managing website content in higher
education. Prior experience managing web content using a content
management system. Prior experience managing digital photography
and other digital assets. Considerable experience using Adobe
Creative Suite. Considerable professional experience writing or
creating original content for the Web. Some professional work
experience utilizing social media. Some professional work
experience using HTML, CSS, and PHP. Salary: Salary is commensurate
with education and experience and begins at $46,087.
