Position Summary:

The PACS Analyst works under the direction of the IT Project Manager, CEO, and COO and is responsible for supporting the PACS and VNA, hardware, software, and networking. This position performs system administration, end user support, and end user training and supports the design and implementation activities for the expansion of PACS systems. Additionally, the PACS Analyst is responsible for supporting and maintaining a help desk functionality of the items above as well as IT support and security of Clinical Systems within Radiologic Associates of Fredericksburg (RAF) and affiliated entities, Dominion Radiology Associates, PLLC (DRA) and affiliated entities, hereafter referred to as the Practice. The PACS Analyst supports the values and clinical initiatives of the Practice and demonstrates a commitment of quality service to the community, the physicians, and our employees.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Works directly with Radiologists to ensure clinical acceptance of Radiologist workstations, third party applications, and all IT related equipment that is required for Radiologist interpretation of imaging studies.
  2. Assists with support of PACS/RIS interfaces with other clinical systems and affiliate institutions.
  3. Works with Radiologists, technologists, and other stakeholders to design PACS and IT workflows that provide optimum patient care while maximizing productivity.
  4. Supports and maintains the diagnostic reading workstations used by Radiologists.
  5. Works with Radiologists to ensure optimum quality of images.
  6. Validates system functionality daily prior to Radiologist use.
  7. Addresses system performance issues in an urgent manner and effectively and professionally communicates updates and job completion to all parties involved.
  8. Ensures hanging protocols are in place that improve Radiologist workflow.
  9. Coordinates and conducts PACS/RIS training for physicians and staff.
  10. In the absence of the IT Project Manager, functions as a project manager for project implementations.
  11. Supports the implementation of policies and procedures utilized in the PACS environment in conjunction with Practice operations; actively participates in the planning, implementation and support of PACS/RIS related projects.
  12. Working with the IT Project Manager and selected vendors, supports the creation and maintenance of a project timeline for the implementation of major systems within scope and budget.
  13. In consultation with selected vendors, supports the IT Project Manager to draw up the specification for, purchase, install and configure server hardware and operating software.
  14. In consultation with Practice management, provides support in evaluation and selection of alternatives for the establishment of a Practice data center.
  15. Working with selected vendors, supports the IT Project Manager to evaluate alternatives for networking, both local and wide area.
  16. Supports the creation and execution of a regular QC program for diagnostic workstations.
  17. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of PACS/RIS advances to recommend enhancements to system maintenance, user support process and training programs.
  18. Supports close working relationship with the IT teams at affiliated healthcare organizations to ensure queries/requests are handled in the most expeditious manner.
  19. Coordinating with the Security/Compliance officer, supports the security of the systems listed above, ensuring appropriate application access rights are assigned.
  20. Supports the clinical systems and workflows to ensure compliance with HIPAA privacy, security and confidentiality requirements.
  21. Supports comprehensive testing of updates and upgrades for clinical systems.
  22. Assumes other duties as required by supervisor.

Education and experience:

  1. Bachelors degree required; Masters preferred.
  2. Degrees in Computer Science or similar subject desirable.
  3. Project Management experience preferred, PMP preferred.
  4. Two to four years of experience supporting a PACS in a multi-modality environment desirable.
  5. Two to four years of experience supporting server hardware, Microsoft server OS, MSSQL.
  6. One to two years of experience supporting data centers and networking.

  9. Ability to supervise both people and process.

Working environment/ schedule:

  1. Responsibilities includes travel to offices and hospitals in the region.
  2. Work schedule may include evenings and weekends as needed to support mission critical systems.

Physical demands and activities:

  1. Computer activity, keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
  2. Occasional requirement to stoop, bend and crawl into small spaces.
  3. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance.
