Chesapeake Public Library ( CPL ) is seeking an enthusiastic,
organized, and detail-orientated full-time Library Assistant II to
perform library/clerical work at any public service desk
(Circulation, Adult Services, or Youth and Family Services) but
primarily in youth and family services, in a busy area library.
This position requires exemplary customer service skills and a
commitment to outstanding service.
Chesapeake Public Library ( CPL ) has a well-established Youth and
Family Services ( YFS ) department with a dynamic track record of
providing quality services for children, young adults, and teens.
We are looking for someone to help us deliver new and innovative
programs and events in our Indian River Library and Russell
Memorial Library Youth and Family Services Department.
Responsibilities include planning and delivering literacy and STEM
/ STEAM programming; finding print and electronic materials;
providing homework help, research support, and computer assistance;
delivering high-quality programming to schools and community
outreaches; and participating in CPL system-wide committees.
The weekly schedule is varied and includes day, evening and weekend
hours and may also include after-hours programming.
The selected candidate may be transferred to work at another area
library, if and when a need arises.
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
: Requires any combination of education and/or
customer service experience equivalent to one year of college in
liberal arts or library science.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to
satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position
requires a minimum of six months related, full-time equivalent
library or customer service experience. Six months' public library
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a
valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance
with City Driving Standards depending on department.
Experience with automated circulation systems highly desired.
Public library experience preferred but other library, children's
literature, child development and STEM / STEAM experience also will
