  • Conducting firmware and software updates to keep systems performing optimally.
  • Performing component and system upgrades per manufacturer specifications.
  • Assisting with the assembly, experiment preparation, and conduct of laboratory and field testing of new measurement systems including setting up data acquisition systems and conducting data processing in preparation for post-test data analysis.
  • Developing maintenance plans for new oceanographic and meteorological sensor technology and related systems.
  • Remote and on-site troubleshooting to include assessment of electronic systems and sensors by connecting directly to the observatory via computer and using system verification techniques and protocols to isolate problems or faults and restore data service at the station.
  • Testing sensors that measure water level, wind, temperature, air pressure and other parameters to determine suitability for CO-OPS field use.
  • Analyzing firmware and software updates for equipment to assess system functionality; assess potential system improvements to include recommended component and system upgrades to identify possible negative effects on data; and ensure updates do not affect the calibration or data ingestion.
  • Assessing and developing test plans and leading the assembly, experiment preparation, and conduct of laboratory and field testing of new oceanographic and meteorological sensor technology and related systems including setting up data acquisition systems and conducting data processing in preparation for post-test data analysis.
  • Managing projects involving the laboratory setup, testing, and field deployment of new Ocean/MET sensors, including evaluation of sensor performance using data analysis and quantitative data analysis of test data collected by measurement systems.
  • Preparation of new and experimental Ocean/MET systems for field deployment that includes sensor testing, integration of power and sensors to the data collection platform, and confirmation of data throughput via satellite and cellular telecommunication systems.
  • Develop test procedures for new and existing systems and sensors.
  • Provide field support, to include the installation, maintenance, and repair of sensors.
  • Provide technical equipment training to field crews.
  • Assist with minor drawings in reference to equipment placement on stations and or buoys.
  • Monitor data acquisition, track activities and problems, and provide resolutions for all field systems assigned
  • Investigate and resolve problems in engineering, system operations, and installation procedures

  • Provide support and technical expertise as required
  • Perform site inspections to assess suitability for use and any modifications that may be required
  • Develop and document new station installation/maintenance procedures.
  • Assist in sensor/system selection, procurement, acceptance/bench tests, field deployment, data acquisition and processing, and inter-comparison of the resulting data sets to accepted standards.
  • Utilize strong technical writing abilities to document systems, convey OSTEP recommendations, and present findings in formal written and oral presentations to CO-OPS personnel and at workshops or conferences which includes occasionally leading those workshops or convening conferences.
