JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Work in this position involves the performance of semi-skilled duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems, and may include the advanced phase of on-the-job training. Assignments are received from a journey level plumber or supervisor, and an employee in this position will be guided in the principles and techniques until the employee masters the work involved. The degree of supervision received will vary depending upon the variety of assignments and the person's aptitude and ability to acquire the skills required. Upon satisfactory completion of the various assignments, the employee will be expected to qualify for journey level assignments. Work will be reviewed by a plumber or supervisor to determine that the employee understands the basic principles and techniques, as well as for the satisfactory completion of assignments.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES PERFORMED
Under supervision of a plumber, measures, cuts, threads, assembles, and installs pipes and tubing. Troubleshoots plumbing systems to detect leaks. Unstops commodes, drains, and sewer lines; cleans grease traps. Under the supervision of a plumber, installs gas, water, and sanitary fixtures. Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of the techniques, methods, and tools of the plumbing trade. Some skill in the
performance of duties related to the plumbing trade. Ability to use tools associated with the plumbing trade. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Physical strength sufficient to work at heavy manual labor for considerable periods of time.
QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalency
• NC Driver's License
• Knowledge of the techniques, methods, practices, and tools of the plumbing trade
• Must be able to read blueprints, schematics, sketches, or drawings
• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to work on plumbing and sewer systems with experience in the trade
  SALARY INFORMATION
  Pay Grade 59
  Full-time, Permanent
  $2600.00 - $4253.43
  (Based on 0-36 years of experience in a school system)
