Location: Chesapeake, Virginia - USAPosition Overview:
The Safety Manager will train, develop, coordinate, and implement
occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure
effective safety operations throughout the organization.Essential
Job Functions--- Collaborate with management to develop, prepare,
and implement safety policies and procedures.
--- Provide training to employees on safety best practices,
forklift operations, and CDL safety guidelines.
--- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws,
regulations, codes, and rules including and not limited to OSHA,
EPA, DOT, NFPA, etc.
o Ensure completion of required recordkeeping and reporting.
--- Responsible for the Company's compliance with FMSCA (Federal
Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Virginia Department of
Transportation) requirements including maintaining documentation to
support compliance to include Drug Testing, Driver Records, medical
cards, etc.
--- Provide technical and administrative support to the safety
committee.
--- Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries,
accidents, and health problems.
--- Conduct and assign employee training on applicable safety
standards.
--- Periodically review safety training and recommend revisions,
improvements, and updates.
--- Conduct safety inspections and audits to assess employee
compliance with safety regulations.
--- Review accident and incident reports while ensuring workers
compensation accidents are monitored and minimized.
--- Perform other related duties as assigned.Required
Skills/Abilities:
--- Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and
applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
standards and DOT/CDL requirements.
--- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
--- Experience in successful training of all levels of
organization.
--- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
--- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability
to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a
diverse workforce.
--- Competent in documenting policies and procedures with the
ability to inspire and motivate others to adopt new processes.
--- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related
software.Experience and Competency Requirements
--- Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering,
Environmental Health, or related field preferred.
--- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by Board of Certified
Safety Professionals is preferred.
--- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) by American Board of
Industrial Hygiene is preferred.
--- At least five years of occupational health and safety
experience in an industrial or logistics environment required.
--- Experience in the transportation industry preferred.
--- A combination of education and related experience will be
considered.Qualifications/Licenses/Certificates
--- CDL is required.
--- Forklift certified trainer preferred.
